William "Bill" Henry Jones, Jr.

William “Bill” Henry Jones Jr., aged 77, entered eternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 26, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00PM on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Central Baptist Church Chapel, 6050 Plain View Highway in Dunn. Officiating will be Revs. Cameron Cloud, Tom Wagoner, and Kerry Hinton. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 5:45PM on Thursday, May 29, 2025 prior to the service at the Central Baptist Church Chapel.

Born January 6, 1948, Bill, the oldest of five boys, grew up in Pocomoke, Maryland. At 19, he married the love of his life and began an adventure that lasted the test of time. Bill will be remembered as a man who loved well and demonstrated immense compassion for children, teens, the homebound or sick, and caretakers, having experienced multiple years in that role himself. His loud and contagious laughter, energetic (and at times questionable) singing skills, and joy in worship will be tangibly missed. While his life experiences were varied, from farmer to small business owner, he was most passionate about serving the Lord. The great need to reach children with the Gospel compelled his work with Child Evangelism Fellowship of the Sandhills, which was the great joy of his re”fire”ment years.

Bill’s legacy will live on through his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Overholt Jones; his daughters Rochelle (David) Friend, Rita (Ira) Hall, Joy (Tom) Evans; his grandchildren Kerry (Yamile), Mary Kate, Kaylee, Avery, Anna, and William Hall, Madelyn (Jude) Yoshino, Denver and Jason Friend, and Lowell, J.W. (Bethany), and Josie Evans; six great-grandchildren; and many other spiritual children he considered family. He is further survived by his brother, David (Carolyn) Jones as well as beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Jane; three brothers, Bobby, Elton, and Kenny; and numerous other family members who we know he is reunited with in heaven.
