Angier, NC: Mr. Thomas Melvin Nelms, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM-7:00PM, Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, NC. Funeral Services will be held 11:00AM, Monday, July 20, 2026 at Providence Presbyterian Church, Angier, NC. Rev. Roger Korsten will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
Mr. Nelms was born on July 7, 1935 in Norfolk, VA, to the late Ellis Crayton Nelms and Euna Blount Denson Nelms. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy King Nelms, and a brother, Norman Shelton Nelms. Mr. Nelms was the former owner and operator of Capital City Trophies in Raleigh, NC. He was a crafty woodworker, and was known for 18th century furniture reproductions. Mr. Nelms was a US Army Veteran and also served in the Reserves. He was a faithful member of Providence Presbyterian Church since 1961, where he served in many capacities.
Surviving include his children, David Nelms and wife, Lisa of Angier, Mark Nelms and wife, Pam of Angier, and Phyllis Davis and husband, Eric of Burlington; grandchildren, Ryan Nelms and wife, Allison, Christina Jones and husband, Eric, Kendall Langston and husband, Dalton; great-grandchildren, Dylan Jones, Brock Nelms, and Baylee Nelms; sister, Barbara Jackson of Momeyer; several nieces and nephews.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers and are receiving friends at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 14664 NC Hwy 210, Angier, NC 27501, or to Transitions Hospice 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Glenda Judd and to the staff of Transitions Hospice for their loving care shown to Mr. Nelms.
