Four Oaks; Thel McAuthur Lawhon, known affectionately as Jimmy, passed away on September 6, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, with his loving family by his side. Born on February 15, 1944, in Durham County, North Carolina, Jimmy led a life marked by his love for the great outdoors and the pursuit of adventures that celebrated nature.

Jimmy's spirit was deeply connected to the land, as he found joy in hunting, fishing, and gardening. His passion for the outdoors was matched only by his creative talent for crafting walking sticks, which he joyfully made for friends and family. These handmade treasures were a testament to his dedication and love for those around him.

A proud veteran, Jimmy served in the United States Army after high school and was deployed to Vietnam during the Vietnam War. His service exemplified his commitment to his country and his willingness to stand for the values he held dear.

Jimmy is survived by several nieces and cousins, who will forever hold onto precious memories of their time with him, along with his beloved furbaby, Ruger. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Alfred Lawhon and Myrtle Overbee Lawhon, his brothers William Everett Lawhon and George Roger Lawhon, and his sister Ellen Ion Beasley.

The family wishes to honor Jimmy's memory with a memorial service, which will be announced at a later date. He will be remembered not only for his zest for life but also for the love and kindness he offered to those fortunate enough to know him.
