Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Sylvia Sue Hodges Book, age 86, of Old School Road passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Liberty Commons in Benson. Funeral Services will be held-12:00 Wednesday February 25, 2026 at Burnell Baptist Church in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Revs. Jessie Brock, John Book, Jr., Jim Book, and J.B. Book. Burial will follow in Four Oaks City Cemetery.

Mrs. Book was born on October 30, 1939 in Johnston County to the late Jack and Maverine Moore Hodges. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Butler Book, Sr.; son-in-law, David Clark; grandparents, Walt “Papa” and Eleanor Strickland Moore; and great grandfather, Henry Wright Strickland. Mrs. Book was a devoted Christian, Pastor’s Wife, and active in her communities, bothin Florida and here in Four Oaks. In the Orlando area she was member of the Maitland Women’s Club and served as president for 5 years, she was instrumental in initiating the “Passing of the Boot” fundraising with Maitland Fire Department, active with the Maitland City Council, she served as Chaplin with The Hospice Comforter of Orlando, member of the Winter Park Republicans Group, worked with Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home for over 15 years, and loved being active in the Red Hat Society. When she moved back home to Four Oaks, she was a member of the Four Oaks Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Four Oaks Historical Society. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, John Butler Book, Jr. and wife, Boni, James Conley Book and wife, Jeanette, and Joni Sue Book Clark; grandchildren, John “J.B.”, Benjamin, Jacqueline, Emilee, Macy, and Mandy; 6 great grandchildren; and cousin, Beth Barbour Owen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks.
