Angier, NC: Mrs. Shirley Matthews Surles, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM-8:00PM Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church 4440-A Piney Grove Road, Angier, NC 27501. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00PM, Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church, Angier, NC. Dr. Brad Lee, Dr. Timmy Blair and Rev. Mike Warren will officiate. Burial will follow in Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Angier, NC.

Mrs. Surles was born on June 19, 1939 in Wake County, NC, to the late William Jasper and Lela West Matthews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry D. Surles; siblings, Joe West, Jackie Adams, Janet Terrill, and Jerry West. Mrs. Surles retired from Wake Technical Community College as an administrative assistant. She was a member of Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church, Angier, NC for over 60 years, where she led the youth for over 40 years. She loved the Lord, and enjoyed spreading his word.

Survivors include her daughters, Deana Surles Warren and husband, Mike, and Dawn Surles Evans and husband, Bobby; grandchildren, Austin Byrd and Alexa Byrd Gentry and husband Dallas; sister, Joyce Wall and husband, CB, and brothers, John West, Mike West, and Joey Matthews and wife, Julie; sister-in-law, Dolores Priest and husband, Johnny; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers, and are receiving friends at other times at the home.
