Selma, NC: Mrs. Shirley Jean Johnson Gillett, age 77 of Pecan Drive passed away on November 27, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 10:45AM on Monday, December 1, 2025 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, December 1, 2025 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Four Oaks. Burial will follow in the Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield.
Shirley was born on May 29, 1948 in Johnston County. She was the daughter of the late Teddy and Viola King Johnson. She graduated from Smithfield High School in 1966 and graduated from Hardbarger Business College with an associate degree. Shirley was the head Engineering Secretary at Sylvania for eleven years and later worked for Johnston County Schools for sixteen years. While living in El Paso, Texas she was honored to receive a lifetime membership of the Texas PTA. She was devoted to children and their success. Shirley contributed many volunteer hours to their service. She cherished her friends, family, and pets.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert Gillett; children, Jeremy and Lindsay of Pine Level, Lee and Donna of El Paso, Texas, Clayton and Melinda of Seattle, Washington, and Colleen and Eric Tidwell of Provo, Utah; a brother, Durwood Johnson and wife, Faye of New Bern; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers; memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
