Garner

Garner, NC: At 5:14AM on May 5, 2024 Heaven gained another angel when Roger Lane Johnson, age 72, known to many as “Rog” or the “Running Man” won his battle with cancer.

Roger was born March 11, 1952 to the late Robert Hite and Pearl Estelle Coats Johnson of Garner, NC. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Bob Johnson of FL; his sisters, Rose Jordan of FL, Lois Jean Taylor of FL, and Sylvia Thrower of MD. Roger was survived by many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews; and to Cindy and Nancy; yes, it is possible to have true love more than once in your life.

From the mailroom to a nuclear specialist, Roger worked for Carolina Power and Light for 25 years. He would later do contract work for Duke Energy.

Roger was an avid and talented runner, motorcycle enthusiast, and photographer for many tee-ball teams along the way bringing smiles to parents faces. He was born and raised and lived in the Cleveland School Community and was known and loved by many. Roger was lovingly known as the “Running Man!” Roger, who didn’t know a stranger, made and kept lasting friendships along the way leaving a lasting impression as to the kind of person he was. He especially had a soft spot in his heart for the elderly and children. He brightened the lives of everyone around him. Roger’s legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will never be forgotten. Roger’s passing leaves a gaping hole in our lives.

Thanks to all of Roger’s friends who he considered brothers; you brought much joy into his life. Thanks to Tim Farish and Family for all your help and support these last 2 months.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later and time.

The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.
