Coats, NC: Rev. Maurice Lee Hagar, age 91, of Live Oak Road passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Emerald Health and Rehab in Lillington. Funeral Services will be held-2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Coats. Officiating will be Pastor Eddie White. Burial will follow in Dixon Family Cemetery in Benson.

Rev. Hagar was born on September 23, 1934 in Cash, Arkansas to the late Arley Melton and Hazel Elizabeth Stevens Hagar. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Marlin Hagar. Rev. Hagar retired from Independence County Sheriff’s Department in Batesville, Arkansas but also served as a minister in multiple churches throughout the years. He was a devoted Christian who loved to tell others about Jesus. He was personable and kind and that helped him connect with people in all walks of life and share the gospel. He was also a talented musician who could play almost any instrument but his favorite was the fiddle. Rev. Hagar will be remembered for his loving nature and great sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his family.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty Jo Hagar; children, Maurice Lee Hagar, II and wife Joyce, Rick Hagar, Sue Hagar, and Debbie Corriher and husband, John; grandchildren, Ryan Hagar, Mark Judson, Courtney Hagar, Jessica Fountaine, Kayleigh Judson, Austin Hagar, and John Corriher, Jr.; great grandchildren, Seth, Isaiah, and Nolan; sister, LaMoin Cunningham and husband, Bill; brother, Jerry Hagar and wife, Linda; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Coats.
