Benson, NC: Mr. Ralph Douglas “Kenny” Clayborne, age 83, of Family Lane passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025 at his residence with his family by his side. Graveside Funeral Services will be held-11:00 AM on Monday October 13, 2025 at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier. Officiating will be Chaplain Matthew Hodge.

Mr. Clayborne was born on June 23, 1942 in Greene County to the late Cecil Victor and Libbie Harris Clayborne. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Neil Douglas Clayborne, son-in-law, Mike Williams, and brother, Cecil “Big Boy” Clayborne, Jr. Mr. Clayborne retired as a Master Officer with Raleigh Police Department and later became a security officer with the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Ralph — affectionately known as “Pops” — will be remembered for his steadfast work ethic, his gentle humor, and a heart that seemed to have endless room for others. He carried himself with quiet strength and an easy kindness that made everyone feel welcome. To his family, he was the cornerstone — the steady hand, the warm smile, the laughter that could fill a room. To his friends and community, he was a man of faith, service, and compassion, always ready to help, to listen, or to lend a hand. His life was one of love, care, and devotion to his family, friends, and community, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to shine through those he cherished most.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Anne Hamilton Clayborne; children, Kim C. Williams, Danny R. Matthews and wife, Adrianne, and Heather M. Scholz; grandchildren, Christy Williams (Brandon), Shannon Clayborne (Brandon), Ashly Clayborne (Jordan), Aidan Thomas, Savannah Matthews, Hailey Scholz and Gage, and Michael Scholz; great grandchildren, Dillon, Kase, August, Logan, Lana, Nevaeh, Lexi, Valeri (Corey), Nathan, Lucas, and Stella; sisters, Jean Hunter Ross and husband Harry of Swansboro; Mary Esther Stark of Palm Bay, Florida, and Rebecca Clayborne Foster and husband, Andy of Snow Hill; sister-in-law, Barbara Clayborne; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
