Benson, NC: Mrs. Rachel Hall Smith, age 90, of W. Woodall Street, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Rolling Ridge Assisted Living in Newton Grove, NC surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 from 12:45PM to 1:45PM at the Benson Global Methodist Church in Benson. Funeral Service will be held 2:00PM-Wednesday, August 26, 2026 in the Benson Global Methodist Church in Benson. Rev. Billy Olsen will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.

Mrs. Smith was born on May 8, 1936 in Johnston County to the late Seth Carlie and Bessie McLamb Hall. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Bradley Pattison, brother, Sherrill Hall, her sister, Eleanor Sue McLamb, and her beloved fur babies, Precious and Missy. Mrs. Smith worked for the Candy Kitchen in Dunn, Block Industries, Terry Hill, Meadow Grill, Woodall’s in Dunn and Benson, and then she retired from Billy Byrd’s Western Wear in Benson. She was a member of Benson Global Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Nursery Coordinator, Memorial and Historical Committees. Mrs. Smith was awarded a lifetime membership to the United Methodist Women’s Circle. She was a member of the American Legion Banner Post 109 Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Smith was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, enjoyed cooking for family and friends especially during the holidays. She had a loving heart for animals and would feed anything that would show up at her house. Mrs. Smith loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens and her yards. She enjoyed fishing at the coast and local ponds. Mrs. Smith loved traveling around the world cruising, road trips, and some of her favorite spots were Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean Islands.

Surviving include her children, James Randy Lee and wife, Charlotte, Steven Douglas Smith and wife, Melissa, and Tammy Davis and husband, Greg; grandchildren, Daniel Lee and wife, Jessica, Miranda Atkins and husband, Jeff, Melodee Pattison and special friend, Derek Messer, Tyler Davis, and Kaylee Davis; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Wheeless; several nieces and nephews.

The Smith Family would like to extend a special thank you to Pruitt Health Hospice Staff and the Rolling Ridge Assisted Living Staff for their loving care of their mother.

The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time and will be receiving people at other times at the home of Steve and Melissa Smith.
