Rachel Lee Denning

Benson, NC: Mrs. Rachel Lee Denning, age 85, of Benson Hardee Road passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Thursday, January 26, 2023 at the Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCullen. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Benson.

Mrs. Denning was born February 7, 1937 in Johnston County to the late Randall Carrington and Gertie Viola Raynor Lee. She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Vendaria Parker, Ruth Jernigan, Naomi Johnson, R. C. Lee, and Robert Lee. Mrs. Denning retired from First Citizens Bank after 40 years of service. She was a member of Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where she served as the treasurer for 47 years. Mrs. Denning enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, and she always put others before herself.  

Surviving includes her husband of 60 years, James Dwight Denning; children, Mike Denning and wife, Brandy of Benson, Tonya Roberts and husband, Patrick of Dunn, Sonya Lawrence and husband, Randy of Benson; grandchildren, Jonathan Roberts and wife, Brittany, Justin Denning, Joshua Roberts and fiancé, Leann, Taylor Lawrence and fiancé, Lucas, Ava Lewis, Aidan Lewis, and Hannah Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Everleigh and Samuel Roberts; sisters, Louise Hammer and husband, Jim of Fayetteville, Janice Campbell and husband, Donald of Dunn; sisters-in-law, Vila Mae Lee of Benson, Alva Lee of Benson; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM – 8:00PM Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson, and other times at the home.
