Benson, NC: Ms. Phyllis Byrd Collins, age 78 passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Joe Brown. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Phyllis was born on June 20, 1947 in Harnett County to the late Randall Linwood and Carra Lee Byrd. She was also preceded in death by her niece, Karen Byrd. She graduated from Benson High School in 1965. After graduation, she went to work with NC Department of Motor Vehicles. She worked there until her children were born. When she went back to work, she worked at various jobs, until she found her home with the State Employee’s Credit Union. She retired from the Fuquay Branch in August, 2014.
She was an active member of Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church, where she sang in the choir, and active member of the Mattie Beasley WH & FM Society, and the Banner Senior Fellowship Group. Phyllis was known for her chocolate and coconut pies.
Survivors include her children, Randy Beasley and wife, Maria of Benson, Scott Beasley of Clayton; grandchildren, Brandon Beasley, Logan Beasley, Josh Beasley (Krystal), Tyler Beasley (Logan), Madison Drew (Kelly), and Colton Beasley; great-grandchildren, Willow, Ashton, Beckett Beasley and Kayson Drew; sister, Bonnie Dunn and husband, Larry of Benson; brother, Sammy Byrd and wife, Linda of Raleigh; nephews and nieces, Jason Dunn (Heather, Audrey, and Amelia), Melissa Allen ( Jeff, Kara, and Jarrett) Justin Dunn (Kathryn, Ivy Kate, and Lainey) and Kimberly Scruggs, (Josh, Noah, and Harper); Along with other special family members and special friends. During her breast cancer and early stages of Alzheimer’s, Wilma Dunn was her rock.
The family will receive friends from 1:45PM to 2:45PM on Thursday, January 15, 2026 prior to the service at Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church and other times at the home of Larry and Bonnie Dunn, 100 Lakeshore Drive, Benson, NC 27504.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church (Senior Fellowship) or to the SECU Hospice House, P.O. Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577.
