Pearl Creech

December 31, 1927 — July 19, 2011

Benson:  Mrs. Pearl Gibbs Creech, age 93, of Benson died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral Services will be 2:00PM Thursday at Benson Baptist Church.  Rev. Michael Edwards will officiate.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.             Mrs. Creech was born December 31, 1917 in Johnston County to the late Willie A. and Annie McLamb Gibbs.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson Vasco Creech; granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Brewer; sister, Verna Mae Ennis Lucas; and brothers, James Alton, Willie Marshall, and John Howard Gibbs.             Surviving include Son, Carson Vasco Creech, Jr., and wife, Gay, of Linden; Daughters, Joyce C. Brewer and husband, Edwin Ray, of Coats, and Bettie MacKenzie and husband, Douglas G., of Oakville, Ontario; Brothers, Willie A. Gibbs of Bricktown, NJ, Jimmie Gibbs of San Antonio, TX, Charles Gibbs of Sneads Ferry, and Paul Gibbs of Raleigh; Grandsons, Ed Brewer, Rob MacKenzie, Paul MacKenzie and John MacKenzie; and Granddaughters, Mary Dickerson and Paula Knorr.  Her greatest joy was her great grandchildren: Carson and Elizabeth MacKenzie, Jonah MacKenzie Brown, Jennifer and Peter MacKenzie, Anna Knorr, Lauren Dickerson, and Sarah, Rachel and Parker Brewer.             Pearl was a graduate of Benson High School and attended Highsmith School of Nursing and Carolina Beauty College.  She was a beautician and cosmetologist by trade for more than 65 years and served the community as owner of Creech Beauty Shop.  She was an active member of Benson Baptist Church for more than sixty years. She was a leader, a long-time Sunday School teacher for both children and adults, and an active participant in the Womens’ Missionary Unit.  Pearl was a member of The Lou Parrish Chapter Order of Eastern Star, serving as worthy matron and multiple stations of the cross.             Pearl’s talents included being a skilled and loving homemaker, a master of crochet and an accomplished seamstress.  Of all her many gifts, the greatest was being a faithful Christian and serving the Lord through the love and care of her family and her community at large.             Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Wednesday.             Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to the Benson Baptist Church, P. O. Box 323, Benson, NC  27504.
