Coats, NC: Mr. Norman Douglas Coe, age 86, of Carson Gregory Road passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington. A Graveside Service will be held-11:00 AM Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery in Benson. Officiating will be Pastor Eddie White.
Mr. Coe was born on September 23, 1938 in Durham County to the late Ronald Coe Sr. and Sudie Ange Coe who later moved to Johnston County. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Pete Coe. After serving his country in the Marine Corps, Mr. Coe was the Co-Owner of Fay’s Sandwich Company in Smithfield for many years, worked for Fire and Rescue in Smithfield, and also retired from the Department of Corrections. Mr. Coe was very involved in his community where he served in many capacities. He was a member of Coats Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion Banner Post 109 in Benson, a member of the Smithfield Moose Lodge, and a founder of the NC Association of Rescue and Fire Benevolent Brotherhood. He was a proud marine who loved God, his country, and his flag. A very generous man, he dedicated his time to mentoring many people in his life and would help anyone in need. His friends were among some of the most important people in his life and he loved his family unconditionally. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Emma Jean Coe; son, Jeff Coe; daughter, Charlotte Addison and husband, Robbie; step-children, Bryan Wood and wife, Marcie and Tracy Temple and husband, William; grandchildren, Joseph Radford, Matthew Radford, Cindy “Hunter” Hopkins, Heather Coe, and Michael Coe; step-grandchildren, Brandon Wood and Brooke Taylor; great grandchildren, J.D. Radford, Amber Radford, Benton Radford, Rhett Radford, Jase Radford, and Waylon Hopkins; step-great grandchildren, Kylie Taylor, Gracyn Taylor, and Lainey Wood; sister, Fay Langston; nephews, Keith Coe, Elmon Langston, Billy Langston; and niece, Lisa Langston.
The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.
Flowers are welcomed; however, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to a charity of your choice.
