Michael Jefferson Wood

Michael Jefferson Wood, 69, loving father and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 11 A.M. at Glad Tidings Church in Dunn, N.C. Private burial will follow.

Michael was born on January 11, 1956, to the late Herbert Jefferson Wood and Clara Creech Wood.

Michael was a blessing to all who knew him. He was, first and foremost, a dedicated father to his three sons. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his boys and their children. He never missed a chance to travel with his sons or talk to them daily on the phone. Michael was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and spent time hunting in locations around the country and even abroad. He also loved holidays because it gave him the opportunity to spend more time with his family.

Michael’s other favorite pastime was his five grandchildren. Known as “Papa Mike,” he loved attending sporting events for his grandkids and spending time with them at any opportunity. Michael’s love for his family was apparent to anyone who met him. He loved bragging about his grandchildren and telling stories about all of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments.

He is survived by his sons, Brandon Wood and wife Alanna of Erwin, NC; Brooks Wood and wife Nikki of Clinton, NC; and Joseph Wood and wife Anne of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, Ava Wood, Andrew Wood, Scarlett Wood, Amelia Wood, and Ezra Wood; his brother, Keith Wood of Dunn, NC; and Cindy Wood, mother of his three sons, of Erwin, NC.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 20, from 4-8 PM, at the home of Cindy Wood, 819 Rosemary Street, Erwin N.C.
