Coats, NC: Mrs. Melody Hope Matthews McGee, age 75, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 10:45AM on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Coats Community Church in Coats. Funeral Services will be at 11:00AM Thursday, October 8, 2026 at the Coats Community Church in Coats. Officiating will be Revs. Chuck Jones and Turner Matthews. Burial will follow in Prospect Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Dunn.

Mrs. McGee was born on July 5, 1951 in Harnett County, NC to the late Neallie Earnest and Molly Lucille Sox Matthews. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Jayden Chapman and sisters, Jo Sue McLean and Patsy Avery. Mrs. McGee retired from Harnett County Department of Social Services and Central Carolina Community College. She was a pillar of the Coats Community where she served as the director of the Coats Senior Center. Mrs. McGee was a devoted and founding member of the Coats Community Church and served in many different capacities. Her life was a beautiful testimony of her devotion to the Lord, and through her words, actions, and faithful witness, she shared His love with everyone she encountered. Mrs. McGee enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending gospel singing, traveling and spoiling her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Tommy McGee; children, Angela McGee, Tommy McGee, Jr. and wife, Tammy, Rodney McGee and wife, Angel; grandchildren, Charlie Thornton and wife, Amanda, Candace Marshall and husband, Alex, Jessica Chapman and husband, Steven, Thomas McGee and wife, Bethany, Dylan McGee and wife, Miranda, Taylor Stuenzi and husband, Cody, Dakota McGee and wife, Darby; Lacey Buffaloe and husband, Matthew, and Allie McGee; sixteen great-grandchildren; special cousin and best friends, Craig Matthews and wife, Denise and children, Turner and Leigh; several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
