Mary Jane Flowers, formerly of Benson but a long time resident of Durham, passed away on June 2, 2023, at the age of 92, in the comfort of her home. She was surrounded by her loving daughters Stephanie Lynn Flowers and Marylu Utley Flowers-Schoen.
Born in Cumberland County, on August 18, 1930, Mary Jane lead a long and successful life. She earned a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Meredith College in 1951 and later worked as a financial editor at Duke University Law School for many years. Her contributions to the field were invaluable, and she will be remembered for her dedication and hard work.
Her memory will be cherished by her surviving family and friends: her daughters Stephanie Lynn Flowers and Marylu Utley Flowers-Schoen as well as those who preceded her in death including Herbert Sherrill Utley (father) and Mary Mersereau Jackson Utley (mother), her aunt, Vinnie Jackson Smith raised her as her own after her mother passed away. They all took pride in knowing such a wonderful individual.

A graveside service will be held to honor Mary Jane at Benson City Cemetery on Friday, June 23, at 4:00PM.
Mary Jane will always be remembered for her intelligence, dedication, humor and love for life which left an indelible mark on those around her. May she rest in peace knowing her legacy will live on.
