Dunn, NC: Marion Randall "Randy" Horton, 63, of McLamb Rd., Dunn, passed away on Saturday, June 3, at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 7 at 2:00PM in Rose and Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Rev. John Foister will be officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.
Mr. Horton was born on March 15, 1960 in Wake County to the late Dalma Horton and Margaret Norris Horton. Mr. Horton was an electrician and business owner. Randy loved fishing. His happy place was surf-fishing on the beach. He had the perfect fisherman’s setup: a cart that he would pull down the beach with fishing poles for every occasion, a well-stocked cooler, and usually his wife, Debbie, by his side. A life-long angler, he fished with his brothers, sons, friends and strangers alike - it was his happy place. If he wasn’t on the water, you would find him by the grill. He was a grill master and cooked the best fresh-caught seafood, BBQ chicken, or the perfect ribeye steak. He had a knack for bringing people together with his famous Super Bowl parties, and enjoyed every football and basketball game he could watch – particularly when the Tarheels won.
Randy was a good man with a kind and gentle soul, cherished by many people, especially his church family at Holly Grove Advent Christian Church. He loved his family and would give just about anything and do just about everything for them. Randy would take his youngest son, Derrick, to football games, and he would hunt and fish with his eldest son, Dustin. With a heart that always had room for more love, he also raised two step-children, Chad and Scott Carter. Randy had a strong bond with his one and only granddaughter (his favorite granddaughter), Ava. The two of them would regularly be found taking four-wheeler rides through country fields, and Randy occasionally took her to see horses. He was crazy about his two grandbabies, Owen and Will, and he often took them on golf cart rides and watched them race around his yard on the tricycles he bought them. Randy also started a successful electrical company that he has passed down to his son Dustin. He loved to provide for his family.
Later in his life, Randy married a lifelong friend, Debbie Horton. They were married in their backyard with family and friends. It was the perfect small, country, backyard wedding. Randy and Debbie treasured riding around country roads together, listening to old music with no particular destination in mind. They loved travelling, especially to the beach, and visiting Christy in new places. His latest journey takes him to the greatest destination of all. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Horton; his children, Dustin Horton and fiancé, Jessica Barbee, Derrick Horton, Austin Swann and fiancé, Jamie Howard and Christy Swann and fiancé, Trey, Chad Carter and Scott Carter; grandchildren, Ava, Owen and Will Horton; brothers, Dwayne, Dalma and Barry Horton; and his sister, Angela Solomon along with a life long friend Gary Honeycutt.
