Benson, NC: Mr. Malcolm “Mal” F. Smith, age 70, passed away on August 21, 2026 at home surrounded by his family. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 5:00PM in the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. The family will receive friends after the service at his home located on W. Parrish Drive in Benson.

Malcolm was born on November 7, 1955 in Liverpool, England to the late Frank and Margaret Smith. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jean; daughter, Jenny and grandson, Joseph. Malcolm loved to work with his hands, which took him from playing guitar to working on motorcycles. He loved all kinds of music from easy listening to hard rock. Malcolm also loved to fish, travel, and learn new things. He was happiest outdoors camping or by any body of water.

Surviving include his wife of 5 and a half years, Collette Smith; bonus daughters, Courtney (Spencer), Jessica(Nate) and Shelby (Max); grandsons, Jeremiah and Maxon; brothers, Barry and Michael Smith; and sister, Carole Taylor along with many other family and friends.
