Mae CarpenterSmithfield, NC: Mrs. Mae Elizabeth Cook Carpenter, age 79, of 1344 A. Packing Plant Road, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be 2:00PM-Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Four Oaks, NC. Burial will follow in Barbour’s Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery, Four Oaks, NC. Rev. Grace Hargis will officiate. Mrs. Carpenter was born on October 1, 1941 in Johnston County to the late Charlie Thomas and Elizabeth House Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Jack Carpenter, son, Steven Randall Thompson, brothers, Charlie Reginald Cook, Thomas Jackson Cook and a sister, Clara Rachel Beasley. Mrs. Carpenter was a retired State Capital Police Officer in Raleigh, NC. Following retirement, she was a BLET Instructor at Johnston Community College in Smithfield, NC. Mrs. Carpenter not only raised her own children, but also helped raise many other children that she claimed as her own. Surviving include her children, Elizabeth Marchell Raynor and husband, Ray; Joyce Hope Rojas and husband, Shorty; Amy Thompson Weston and husband, Bucky; Delores Bryan and husband, David; and Jennifer Carpenter Eason and husband, Dennis; grandchildren, Ronnie Lee Allen, II., Danny Marshall Weston, Sarah Mae Weston Anita Wood, Dustin Thompson, and Tracy Bare; many great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Hope Carpenter; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6:00PM-8:00PM-Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks, NC and other times at the home. In Accordance with NC-COVID -19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Hope, Amy, And Marchelle, I am truly sorry that your momma has passed. I pray God will give you all strength, encouragement to make it through this very difficult time. Mae was a wonderful inspiration for women. She was a fabulous mentor and friend who will greatly be missed. I am so thankful she came into my life and I will always hold her dear in my heart.

Ma Mae I love you and will miss you very much my sweet best friend forever We sure had some good times together over the years running that little store The Picket Fence with Ma Rachel and Callie and PA Chester and all that good food we had Going to the beach and Mountains and being with your family I am forever grateful to have you as my second Mother You taught me alot over the years Thanks for all you done for me But most of all Thank you for everything you done for me from the bottom of my heart You will be greatly missed by your family and all your friends Your work is now done here on this earth and the night he called you home God said it is time my child to come with me to your Heavenly home that I have prepared for you and I know without a shadow of a doubt Your Steve and all the rest of your loved ones were standing at those Pearly Gates of Gold waiting for you and I know without a shadow of Doubt that was one Happy reunion So with all being said May you RIP my dear sweet lady You will be so greatly missed

Chelle, I knew you long ago in PGR. I had no idea this was your Mom. She was a sweet lady. She taught me basic self defense a very long time ago when I too worked for DOA in downtown Raleigh. I am very sorry for your loss. She was sure a lady to be proud of. May she rest in eternal peace.

I met Mae in the Spring of 2015 through Forrest Johnson at the beach house in Topsail. She was a spit fire ! Enjoyed talking with her and her stories and sage wisdom. RIP Mae. See you on the other side my friend.Lori Nash.
