Benson, NC: Ms. Kathy Gaye McGee Johnson, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at Harnett Wood’s Nursing and Rehab in Dunn, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:45AM-11:45AM, Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Benson Grove Baptist Church, Benson, NC. Funeral Service will follow at 12:00PM, in the church sanctuary. A private committal service will follow in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Angier, NC. Dr. Billy Cashwell will officiate.

Ms. Johnson was born on December 12, 1949, in Harnett County, NC, to the late R.Z. and Myrtle Gray McLamb McGee. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy Johnson Doyle. Ms. Johnson was a retired teacher, teaching at Benson Elementary School, and was also a homemaker. For many years, she attended Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church, where she was the pianist, and served in other capacities. She also attended Benson Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with children, especially her grandchildren, and singing with her sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie Johnson Raynor and Eddie Longhany; grandchildren, Alyssa Murdoch, Michael Murdoch, Kasey Doyle, Johnson Raynor, Piper Doyle, and Jennings Longhany; sisters, Diane Prairie and husband, Clinton, Judy Adams, Trudy Ennis and husband, Lavon, and Jennifer McGee; many nieces and nephews.

The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers, and are receiving friends at other times at the home of Stephanie Johnson Raynor.
