Mrs. Johnson was born on November 26, 1943 in Buncombe County to the late Hillary Bradshaw and Belle Godwin Young. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Hillarie Johnson Denning. Mrs. Johnson graduated from Benson High School and attended East Carolina University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Business Education and English. After marrying her high school sweetheart, M.G., they moved to Selma and Judy taught at North Johnston High School and Johnston Community College. While living in Selma she enjoyed the Junior Woman’s Club where she served as President.
After moving to Benson in 1964, her life was full of activities and responsibilities. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Benson Baptist Church where she served as chairman of the Capital Campaign Committee for the fellowship hall, chair of the Benevolence Fund, member of the choir and served on the music committee. Serving on these committees reflected her love of music and her concern for the less fortunate. She enjoyed playing bridge with her Bridge Club Friends. During her quiet time, Judy became an avid reader. Her happy place was entertaining family and friends at Lake Gaston.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, M. G. Johnson; son, Millard Gardner Johnson, III, and wife, Amber; grandchildren, Carson and Hillarie Johnson; sister, Pam Wilkie; nephews, Brent Wilkie, and Troy Wilkie and wife, Beth Ann; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Johnson Pearson and husband, William Elliotte, Sr.
The Johnson Family would like to thank Dorothy Medlin, Judy’s caregiver, for the devotion and loving care she gave to Judy on a daily basis.
In lieu of flowers; memorials may be made to the Benson Baptist Church Benevolence Fund or Building Fund, P.O. Box 323, Benson, NC 27504.
