Four Oaks

Four Oaks: Judith Lynne Carter (Lafferty) was born on October 14th, 1939, in Logan, Kansas, the beloved daughter of Lyle and Mildred Lafferty. Judy was called to her heavenly home on June 18th, 2025, having peacefully passed in her sleep.

Judy graduated from Logan High School and chose to pursue beauty school. While working as a hairdresser in Topeka, Kansas, she met a young Airman named Tom (TC) Carter. TC and Judy were married in April of 1959 in the Episcopal Church of Logan, Kansas.

Life moved Judy and her young family to Texas, then California, before returning her to her Kansas roots. She was well-known to her community of Phillipsburg, serving as a daycare provider. Judy touched the lives of countless children in her many years of providing care and love to the kids of her community. It was always easy to spot where Judy lived; her love of gardening produced some of the most beautiful yards in every small town in which she resided. She truly had a "green thumb" and loved spending hours in the yard, creating living works of art for all to enjoy.

Once her own children had flown the nest, Judy and TC moved to the mountains of north Georgia to be close to their first and only grandchild. Several years and yet another beautifully crafted yard later, Judy moved once again, this time to North Carolina where she would spend her remaining years once again close to family.

Those who knew Judy will remember her for her fierce and protective love of her family and her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Judy’s memory lives on in her husband of 65 years, TC, her sons Mitch and wife Randy (Talai) of West Hills, California, and Scott and wife Joanna (Trent) of Four Oaks, North Carolina. She also watches over one granddaughter, Alexandra Etchberger (Carter) and husband Dan, and one cherished great-granddaughter, Brelynn Etchberger, all of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Judy requested that no service be held after she was called home. Donations may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, an organization near and dear to Judy’s heart.
