Newton Grove, NC: Jean Stewart Johnson, age 86, passed away on September 6, 2026 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield.

Jean was born on February 2, 1940 in Johnston County, North Carolina to the late James Herbert and Rena Mae Stanley Stewart. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Stacy L. Johnson; two grandsons, Andy and Dusty McLamb; and sister, Marie McLamb. Jean loved to quilt for family and friends. She loved to use her hands in her garden and enjoyed fishing. Jean was well known for her famous banana pudding; Jean loved her family but she loved to pull the handle on a slot machine almost as much.

Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Lambert Murphy (John) and Anita Lambert Hawley (Kevin); granddaughter, Amanda Creech Smith (Adam); great grandchildren, Xavier McLamb, Tristen Byrd, Kaylee Byrd, Wyatt Freeman, Ady Smith, Harlan and Saylor Ogus; sisters, Evelyn Burbridge and Sue Hamliton; former husband, Frank Lambert (Cricket); along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family has chosen to have Mama Jean lie in state to the public on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks.
