Dunn, NC: Mr. James Marion “Jimmy” Tart, age 74, of Tart Town Road passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC surrounded by his loving family. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00PM Sunday, June 14, 2026 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Greg Tart. The family will receive friends following the memorial service and other times at the home of Jay and Brittany Tart, 7078 NC Hwy 50 South Benson, NC 27504.

Jimmy was born on August 31, 1951 in Harnett County, NC, to the late James Marion and Repsie Tart and later adopted by the late Addison and Edna Tart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Hayes Tart. Jimmy graduated from Meadow High School in 1969 where he was voted “cutest”. He was always proud to be from the Class of ’69. Jimmy and Betty were married in May of 1970 and lived a life together farming and marketing. He enjoyed his last few years scooting around in his farm Prius, drinking his bottles of water at the L & R Bar, and watching his four grandchildren grow. The legend of Tart Town will surely be missed.

Survivors include his daughter, Kelli Tart McLamb; son, Jay Tart and wife, Brittany; grandchildren, Kelsi McLamb, Karli McLamb, Emmie Tart, and Jennings Tart; sisters, Marty Wood and Robert, Amy Kradel and Mickey, Mary Dorothy Walker; many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SECU Hospice House, P.O. Box 1376 Smithfield, NC 27577.
