Benson, NC: Mr. James Roland Wood, age 79, of 2500 Beasley Road died Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 8:00PM Sunday, April 26, 2026 at J. Roland Wood Farms. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, April 27, 2026, at Trinity Baptist Church in Meadow. Officiating will be Revs. Glenn McCullen and Freddy Wayne Langston. Burial will follow in Young Cemetery in Benson, NC.
Mr. Wood was born on March 27, 1947 in Harnett County to the late Wilbert and Belle Adams Wood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred T. Wood; and brother, Edsel “Buck” Wood. Mr. Wood was owner and operator of J. Roland Wood Farms for 57 years. He was US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War and a member of the Benson American Legion Banner Post 109. Mr. Wood was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Perry and Dae Barefoot Wood of Benson; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne Wood and Jeremy Rhodes of Four Oaks; grandchildren, Taylor Rhodes Hill and husband, Daniel, Mary Michael Wood and Caleb Wayne Rhodes; great-grandson, Nathan James Hill; brother, Luby E. Wood and wife, Catherine; sister-in-law, Lou Wood; and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, c/o BB Gillen, 7538 Hwy 50 South, Benson, NC 27504 or Benson American Legion Banner Post 109, P.O. Box 153, Benson, NC 27504.
