James Robert Hobbs

February 8, 1965 — May 20, 2025

Goldsboro

Goldsboro-James Robert Hobbs, 60, passed from this life and entered into the Church Triumphant while in the comfort of his home with his wife by his side, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Born in Wake County on February 8, 1965, he was the son of the late Arthur Gayle and Margaret Strickland Hobbs.

Robert is survived by his wife of 28 years, Pastor Terry Allen Hobbs; sister, Dorene Creech and husband, Shannon; and nephews, Petyon Creech and Holden Creech.

A man of quiet strength and deep faith, Robert spent his professional life serving as an informational technologist for the State of North Carolina, where he brought dedication, excellence, and a thoughtful presence to every project.

Robert was an avid reader and passionate book collector, always seeking knowledge and wisdom. His all-time favorite book was the Bible, which he read not only with curiosity but with a deep reverence. Bible study was a cornerstone of his life—a place of learning, connection, and spiritual growth. It was at a Bible study that Robert met the love of his life, Terry. Together, they built a life of shared faith, service, and unwavering support for one another’s callings.

Robert and Terry were tireless volunteers, extending love and practical help to their neighbors—both around the corner and around the world. Whether building homes through Habitat for Humanity and Mountain T.O.P. (Tennessee Outreach Project), supporting athletes at the Special Olympics and State Games, or simply lending a hand to someone in need, Robert gave of himself with humility and joy.

Robert was also a devoted ministry partner to Terry as she served in parish ministry. Their journey of faith and service took them to congregations in Seven Springs, Providence, Westwood, and Lemon Springs (Lee County), where they touched the lives of many with grace, hospitality, and encouragement.

In quieter moments, Robert found joy in antiquing and traveling—exploring the beauty and wonder of God’s creation with a sense of awe and gratitude.

Those who knew Robert will remember his gentle spirit, thoughtful mind, and servant’s heart. He was a man who lived his faith not just in words, but in action—through every relationship, every mission trip, every hour of quiet study, and every small act of kindness.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Pastor Amy Kelly officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Moonie Best and Frank Johnson for their faithful and loving assistance over the past 12 years.
