Angier, NC: Mr. James H. “J. H.” Langdon, Jr., age 88, of NC Hwy 50 North, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM-Monday, May 4, 2026 at Benson Baptist Church in Benson. Rev. Horace Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Fellowship Community Cemetery in Angier.
Mr. Langdon was born on January 17, 1938 in Johnston County to the late James Hector, Sr. and Margaret Highsmith Langdon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Barbour Langdon; and his four sisters, Annie Lee Andrews (Joe), Janice L. Honeycutt (Clarence), Katherine L. Spain (G.A.), and Joan L. White (Norman). Mr. Langdon was a graduate of North Carolina State University. He was an agriculture teacher at South Johnston High School for over 30 years and during this time was also a professional photographer. Mr. Langdon served as a Johnston County Commissioner for 8 years and served as chairman for 6 of those years. He was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives where he served 12 years. Mr. Langdon was the chair of the Agriculture and Education Committees. He was an avid wood worker who loved to give wooden pens to everyone. Mr. Langdon was a devoted member of Benson Baptist Church serving in many capacities.
Surviving include his daughter, Amy Langdon of McGee’s Crossroads; nieces and nephews, Gwen Pope and family, Ramona Bowen and family, Eric Honeycutt and family, Barry Honeycutt and family, Jimmy Spain and family, Ross Spain and family, Beth Spain and family, Kim White and family, Lewis Andrews and family; sister-in-law, Helen Langley of McGee’s Crossroads; niece and nephew, Angela Langley Murphy and husband, Jed of McGee’s Crossroads, Michael Langley and wife, Luba of McGee’s Crossroads, great-nephew, Christopher Langley of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by many students who became like sons and daughters.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 3, 2026 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Benson Baptist Church, P.O. Box 323 Benson, NC 27504.
