James Capps, Sr.

Dunn, NC: Mr. James Prentis “J.P.” Capps, Sr., age 81 of Dunn died Friday at Harnett Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Sunday at Lee’s Grove PFWB Church. Officiating will be Rev. Randy Beasley and Hubert Morgan. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens in Dunn. Mr. Capps was born October 7, 1929, in Harnett County to the late Luther James and Ethel Gregory Capps.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Jackson Capps, second wife, Mertice Barefoot Capps; daughter, Alice Capps Beasley; and brother, Bobby Lee Capps. Mr. Capps retired from Erwin Mills, was a farmer and owned and operated Capp’s Auto Sales. Mr. Capps was also a member of Lee’s Grove PFWB Church. Surviving are; Daughter and Son-In-Law, Judy and Tom Turner of Dunn; Sons and Daughter-In-Law, Ricky and Sylvia Capps of Greenville, Prentis Capps of Dunn; Step-Daughters, Judy and Randy Cook of Erwin, Donna Barefoot of La Grange; Step-Son, Gary Barefoot of Erwin; Sister-In-Law, Willadean Capps of Benson; Sisters, Margie Whittington of Coats, Claire Dean of Angier; 5 Grandchildren; 7 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Step-Grandchildren; 4 Step-Great-Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren; Special Niece, Kathy. Family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 prior to the service and other times at the home of Judy and Tom Turner 1584 Ashe Ave. Dunn, NC 28334.
