Coats, NC: Mrs. Jacqueline Allen Matthews, age 85, of NC-27 passed away on July 2, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be held-2:00 PM Monday, July 6, 2026 at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCullen. Burial will follow in Harnett Devotional Gardens in Dunn.

Mrs. Matthews was born on March 30, 1941 in Johnston County to the late David T. and Iva Bell Allen. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Janice Hall, Shirley Liverman, Bonny Massengill, and Doris Allen. She retired from the Accounting Office at Campbell University after 36 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed staying active and loved to travel, especially trips to the beach and many cruises. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was an active member at the Coats Senior Center, where she enjoyed spending time with friends and being involved in the community. A faithful member of Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, her faith was an important part of her daily life. Above all, she loved her family and was always there to support and encourage them. She will be remembered for her caring nature, strong faith, and the love she shared with those around her.

Surviving includes her husband of 64 years, Laverne Matthews; son, Gary Matthews and wife, Melissa; daughter, Cindy West and husband, Toby; grandchildren, Bryan Veliky and wife, Becca, Parish Carter and husband, Ryan, and Kaden Matthews; great granddaughter, Aubree Veliky; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson.
