Benson, NC: Ms. Helen Juanita Holmes, age 85, of Beasley Road, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at her residence. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held-3:00 PM Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery in Benson. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.

Ms. Holmes was born on November 3, 1940 in Johnston County to the late Garland Woodrow and Verdie Turnage Holmes. She was preceded in death by her parents. She graduated from Dunn Highschool in 1959. Prior to retirement, she was an administrative assistant and also owned and operated Holmes Plants. Ms. Holmes was a published poet, writing “Echoes of Broadslab” in the 1970s. She enjoyed making candy, crafting Christmas wreaths, and loved flowers, her favorite was dahlias. Ms. Holmes was also an animal lover, especially her dog, Phydeaux. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Sara Creech and husband, Timmy, Jason Holmes and wife, Jennifer, and Jennifer Barbour and husband, John; grandchildren, Sara Holmes, Emily Holmes, Ben Creech, Ella Barbour, and Elizabeth Barbour; sisters, Geneva Holmes Sorrell and husband, J.W. and Gayle Holmes Mathews and husband, Gene; and many nieces and nephews.
