IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Glenda Gail Dupree
Spry
February 11, 1947 – February 19, 2026
Mrs. Glenda "Gail" Dupree Spry, age 79, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026 at Kingswood Reserve Assisted Living Facility. She was born in Johnston County on February 11, 1947 to the late Thomas Alfred Dupree and Agnes Johnson Dupree. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Spry, her sister-in-law, Margaret Sherrill Dupree, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Gail was a warm, wonderful soul who saw the best in everyone and was always giving of her time. Family was everything to Gail, and she loved gathering with the Dupree and Johnson families, particularly around the holidays. In 1975, Gail married the love of her life, Bill, with whom she shared 35 wonderful years. They were both computer programmers with the NC State Bureau of Investigation, where they made many lifelong friends. Gail and Bill shared a love of travel and gem mining. They spent much time exploring the United States in their RV and loved spending their winters in Florida.
She is survived by her brothers, Thomas Larry Dupree of Goldsboro, and Don Robert Dupree of Angier; her nieces, Tammy Dupree Pickrell, Donna Dupree Murphy, Wendy Dupree George, and Amy Dupree York. Although she never had children of her own, “Aunt Gail” loved her nieces, their spouses, and their children with a maternal heart that was a beautiful combination of a friend and a second mom.
Gail was a member of Mt. Zion Global United Methodist Church in Garner. She loved her church, and even when she was physically unable to attend, she was so grateful for the personal visits from members of the congregation. The family would like to thank the staff of Kingswood Reserve and Gentiva Hospice services for their loving care in her final days.
In lieu of a formal service and to honor Gail’s life, please visit with those you love and listen as they tell their stories, or visit those who live alone or in a local assisted living/nursing care facility. If appropriate, ask if you can bring a pet to visit with the residents, as this often brings a unique joy to their lives. Finally, enjoy your favorite song and let it bring a smile to your face with precious memories. Gail loved “Hello Darlin” by Conway Twitty, probably because she had been anxiously awaiting the day when she would be reunited with her beloved husband.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.
