Benson, NC: Gladys Coats Johnson of McGee’s Crossroads departed this life on December 18, 2025 to join her precious husband, Earle at the feet of Jesus. She was born January 7, 1938 to Jarvis Booker Coats and Bertha Stevenson Coats, both deceased. She was the widow of Thomas Earle Johnson Jr. originally of Tuscolussa, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her sons, Phillip A. Langdon and Ricky Harold Langdon. She is survived by a grandson, Patrick Wade Langdon and a granddaughter, Stacey Nichole Langdon and a great granddaughter, Ally Cook. The grandchildren chose to call her Grandmother Gladys which she very much enjoyed. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Gladys graduated from Johnston Technical Institute. She chose to raise her two sons before entering the work force. She worked for Sylvania and North American Phillips. She worked for the Department of Corrections and with that experience she tried Industrial Security, she worked at Data General and Channel Master before retiring from Channel Master. She expressed her enjoyment of working for Larry Haley in charge of security. He said “you can’t be replaced.” His comment meant more to her than some large or expensive gift. Gladys was a long-time member of Johnson Memorial Church where she was buried beside of her beloved Earle.
