Daughter of a Navy Medic, she was born in North Carolina but traveled extensively throughout her childhood, eventually returning to the Carolinas and settling on Stephenson Road in Angier, NC. She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1964 and married her first love, Mr. Robert Edward Taylor. They enjoyed over 40 years of marriage, working together at Ft. Bragg while raising their daughter Shelley, who they loved endlessly. Robert passed due to cancer in 2008, and they loved each other dearly until the very end. After some time, Butchie was blessed when Connie Jernigan came into her life, and the two were wed in 2011, and remained married until Butchie’s passing.
Butchie loved her family, and loved to spoil her daughter and her grandchildren. There wasn’t a time that her family came to visit that Butchie didn’t have some kind of “surprise” for the kids.
She was always put together, and it was rare to see her without her bright clothes, jewelry, pristine makeup, and spotless nails.
In her later years, she enjoyed traveling as much as she could, and took cruises with Connie and her friends as often as she was able.
Butchie loved the Lord, and was always very involved with whichever congregation she belonged to, whether that be Johnson Memorial, Friendly Chapel, or Stoney Run. She loved to sing, and participated in the choir as much as she could.
She was loving, thoughtful, and kind, and will be missed by many.
She was predeceased by Robert Edward Taylor, Lawson “Lucky” Elyhue Earles, and Violene Beatrice Stephenson Earles.
She is survived by her husband Connie H. Jernigan, daughter Shelley Renee Taylor Giles (Bradford Giles) and grandchildren Lawson, Taylor, and Kayden, stepdaughter Kay McGriff (Rob), step-granddaughter Anna McGriff, and stepson Hugh Jernigan (Don). She is also survived by loving sisters-in-law Debbie Elder and Hazel Stephenson, and multiple nieces and nephews.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.
