Mrs. Tart was born on April 20, 1929 in Harnett County to the late James T. and Ruth Surles Whittenton. She was preceded in death by her brothers, David Whittenton, Sr. and Percy Whittenton. Mrs. Tart was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. A mighty woman of God. An extraordinary beacon, protector, and role model for her three sons, her daughter, and all that she knew and loved. She lived her life as a peace maker and a caregiver. She especially loved babies and children. Her selflessness, humility, and grace serve as examples to us all. Her family, friends, and loved ones are at peace knowing that God has called her home, where she will be richly rewarded for her faithfulness to God and all those she loved so dearly.

Surviving include her children, Thurman Tart and wife, Sandra, Jarvis Tart, Jr. and wife, Terri, and Ricky Tart all of Coats, Janice Austin and husband, William of Newton Grove; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers; memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.

May each of us follow her example of unwavering love, care, and devotion. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23
