Edna Holmes Gilbert

Benson, NC: Mrs. Edna Grace Holmes Gilbert, age 90, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Benson surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Benson. Rev. Glenn McCullen and Dr. Don Sauls will officiate. Burial will follow in Hannah Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Four Oaks.

Mrs. Gilbert was born on October 14, 1930 in Johnston County to the late John S. and Annie Rose Holmes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge Andrew Gilbert; sisters, Chrystelle Allen, Velma Williams, and Clara Harden; brothers, Herman Holmes and Garland Holmes. Mrs. Gilbert retired as a sales clerk in a variety of retail stores. She was a member of the Benson P.F.W. B. Church where she served as the pianist since 1965. Mrs. Gilbert was also a homemaker and farmer.

Survivors include her daughters, Kay Upchurch and husband, Kenneth of Buies Creek, Arlene Young and husband, Carroll of Benson, Sherry Howard and husband, Jeff of Benson; grandchildren, Russell Upchurch and wife, Beth, Kimberly Miller and husband, Dustin, Anita Holmes, Carrie Banks and husband, Derek, Cole Howard, Jonathan Howard; great-grandchildren, Noah Upchurch, Seth Upchurch, Abby Miller, Dusty Miller, Blake Miller, Eli Holmes, Hannah Holmes, Hannah Banks; sister, Gladys Blackmon of Benson; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home of Sherry and Jeff Howard, 3259 Beasley Road Benson, NC 27504.

Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Benson P.F.W.B. Church, c/o Rachel Denning, P.O. Box 442, Benson, NC 27504.

In accordance with NC-COVID19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W's: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Face coverings are not required, but are kindly recommended for all services.
