On Thursday June 9, 2022, Doris Conrad, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many, passed away at the SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health at the age of 89. She fought a gracious battle with cancer full of courage and unwavering faith.

Doris was born in Four Oaks, NC to Lonnie and Idella McLamb on January 6, 1933. She was one of eight sisters and a brother and grew up on the family farm where she developed her hard work ethic and strong character.

After graduating Four Oaks High school in 1951, she moved to Washington DC and began working for the J. Edgar Hoover led FBI. She met and married James H. Waldorf in 1954. They had 2 children James (Jimmy) M. Waldorf and Susan Waldorf. The marriage ended in 1973. While working for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) she met Robert Conrad and they married in 1975. In 1979 they moved back to her hometown of Four Oaks NC and built a beautiful home on Holt Lake where she lived until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents Lonnie and Idella, her siblings Elgie Mae McLamb, Ruby King, Roland McLamb, Mable Daughtry, and Madie Browning, her son-in-law William Morgan, and her daughter-in-law Jeannie Waldorf. She is survived by her children Jimmy Waldorf and Susan Morgan, her sisters Katie

Barbour, Hilda Smith, and Grace Hargis, her grandchildren Lauren Mendenhall and husband, Brendan, Aaron Waldorf and his wife, Alexandra, Brian Waldorf and his wife, Erin, and Andrew Morgan and his wife, Lauren. She was a great grandmother to Eva and Felicity Mendenhall, and Aiden and Levi Morgan. She was also beloved by many niece sand nephews. Also surviving Doris was her best friend and extraordinary caretaker Dana Johnson.

In addition to her work with the FBI and NASA she was a successful Maryland real estate agent and enjoyed selling Mary Kay products. She loved to travel both at home and abroad. Among her most favorite travels were numerous trips to Germany with her good friend Hildegard Creech.

Doris loved life and adored her family. She always had an optimistic outlook. She was known for her generosity, kindness, and common sense. She enjoyed shopping and hosting family and friends who visited her.

We are comforted and joyful in the knowledge that she is healed and whole in her eternal home, received by God’s grace, through her faith, as a good and faithful servant. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to:
