Carolyn Sue Strickland Norris, a spirited and determined individual whose legacy will forever resonate with those who knew and loved her, passed away on December 10, 2025, at her residence in the warm embrace of her family. A graveside service to honor Carolyn's life and legacy will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery in Benson, North Carolina, where loved ones can gather to celebrate her extraordinary life. Officiating will be Mr. Neil Strickland.
Born on January 6, 1946, in Johnston County, North Carolina, Carolyn was a trailblazer, emerging as one of the first woman estimators in the state of Virginia within the traditionally male-dominated auto industry. Her career was marked by her tenacity and passion, particularly during her time in the automotive industry.
Carolyn was not merely someone who forged a path for herself; she was a beacon of inspiration for many women striving to break barriers. Known for her wild and unconventional spirit, she refused to play by the rules and instead carved her own way in a world that often sought to constrain her. She embodied strength, resilience, and courage, virtues that her family and friends cherished deeply.
Beyond her impressive career, Carolyn had a fervent love for gardening and flowers, finding peace and connection with nature in one of its most beautiful forms. She often could be found tending to her garden, nurturing her plants with the same care and dedication that she applied to every aspect of her life.
Her warmth and vibrant personality were matched only by her profound love for her family. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 62 years, Joseph Larry Norris, who stood by her side throughout their journey together. Their bond was unwavering and filled with countless cherished memories. Her son, Joey Oliver Norris, and daughter, Susan Nicole Norris, carry forward her legacy, along with her sister, Margaret Lee, who shared in her joys and sorrows, creating a lifetime of precious moments together.
Carolyn was predeceased by her beloved parents, Oliver Wendell and Susan Elizabeth Johnson Strickland, alongside her son, Larry Bryan Norris, who was undoubtedly greeted with open arms and loving memories. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Owen, Edward, and Marshall Strickland, who will forever remain in our hearts.
