Bruce Vincent Carlson

October 28, 1946 — January 16, 2023

Benson, NC

Bruce Vincent Carlson, 76, passed away suddenly at his home on the morning of Jan. 16th, 2023.  Bruce was born on Oct. 28th, 1946, in Stamford, CT to William A. Carlson and Muriel Smith Carlson. He was a member of the 1964 class of Stamford High School where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Hazel Roxburgh in 1967.  Bruce served in the United States Army Reserves after high school until his honorable discharge in 1967.  They settled in Norwalk in 1970 and stayed there until recently relocating to Benson, NC, to be closer to family.

He leaves behind his wife of 55 years along with two sons, Scott Douglas (Terri) of Cary, NC, and Craig Ryan (Kristin) of Leland, NC.  He was “Pa” to his five cherished grandchildren: Tony, Logan, Brennan, Kaitlyn, and Shane.

Bruce was a Thirty Year Member of the South Norwalk Boat Club and very active within the club.  He proudly worked on various committees and projects throughout the years.  There was nothing he would rather do than cruise around Long Island Sound in the “Main Drain” with his family or his buddies.

Bruce was a Field Superintendent with W.R. Johnson in Stamford for over 30 years, retiring in 2001.  He then worked for the City of Stamford Building Department.  He was a proud Union plumber and Vice President of Local 311 before it became Local 777 Plumbers & Pipefitters.

He is survived by his younger brother, Brian T. Carlson, of Stamford CT.  He was predeceased by his brother William G. Carlson and his sister, Linda Dunn.  He is survived by a nephew, three nieces, and a host of friends.  He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
