Mrs. Betty Jeanette Blackmon Byrd, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Graveside Funeral Services will be held 12:00PM-Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield, NC. Rev. Rodney Raby will officiate. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

Mrs. Byrd was born on August 19, 1937 in Johnston County, NC to the late Henry Woodrow Blackmon and Cartha Florence Parker Blackmon Barefoot. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Kenny Ray Ivey, and a brother, Jimmy W. Blackmon. Jeanette attended Four Oaks High School. She met and married the love of her life, Willard Byrd, and was married for 72 years. Jeanette worked on the farm beside her husband. She also worked part-time at The Glamour Shop, and the Glam-O-Rama Cleaners in Smithfield, NC for several years. Jeanette enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles, shopping, and listening to country music, especially Conway Twitty. She was a great cook, and famous for her “pecan cake.” Jeanette was a member of Lees Chapel Advent Christian Church in Four Oaks, where she served as treasurer of the Neva Blackmon Society Ladies Group. Jeanette was a devoted wife, who loved her children, grandchildren, and her fur baby, Teeny.

Survivors include her husband, Willard Wilson Byrd, daughters, Brickie Allen, and husband, Roger Dale, Kathy Stanley and husband, Chris, and Rhonda Ivey; grandchildren, Patrick Keith, Kristie Adams, Jessica Weaver (Miles), and Ken Ivey (Jay); sister, Janet Jackson, and a sister-in-law, Gayle Blackmon; many nieces and nephews.
