Betsy Canady Stevens

Benson, NC: Mrs. Betsy Canady Stevens, age 90, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM-Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Benson Baptist Church in Benson, NC.  Entombment will follow in Roselawn Community Mausoleum. Dr. Charles Royal will officiate.

Betsy was a native of Johnston County, born on October 10, 1932 to the late Nellie and Eugene Canady of Clayton.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Stevens, and a sister, Helen Austin.  In 1962, she and Charles moved to Benson, where she was the bookkeeper for Benson Drug Company for many years. She absolutely loved the Benson Community.  One of her passions was doing things for other people.  Her greatest passion and love were her family and her three grandchildren. She was a member of Benson Baptist Church where she served in many capacities.  She loved her church family and would volunteer to do anything.  She received the volunteer of the year award in 2001, from the Benson Area Chamber of Commerce.

She is survived by her two daughters, Beth Blackwell (Sam Wilson), Kathy Byrd (Neil Byrd); three grandchildren, Katherine Stancil, John Charles Stancil, and Brittany Byrd; sister, Mary Alice Barbour, and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to show their appreciation to Felipa Jo Uzzle, Lenora McLamb, Carolyn Hill, and the many other caregivers for their love shown to Mrs. Betsy.

The family will receive friends from 12:45PM-1:45PM on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 in the fellowship hall at Benson Baptist Church in Benson, NC.
