Pauline Baptist Church
Mrs. Angela Clara Hines, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. A Graveside Entombment Service will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Pauline Baptist Church Cemetery, Four Oaks, N.C.
Mrs. Hines was born on July 18, 1937, in England. She met her husband, Herman Hines, during his time stationed in England after World War II. She followed him to Vientiane, Laos, and Saigon, Vietnam, where they raised their family during the Vietnam War. After the fall of Saigon in April 1975, they returned to North Carolina and then moved to Savannah in the late 1970's because of Herman's job. After her children left home, she worked for Southern Motors Honda driving vehicles to their new owners. After many years of safely delivering cars, she volunteered to serve the troops at Hunter Army Airfield as part of the USO and was known locally as the "Hugging Grandma." She loved her adopted country and the freedoms we all enjoy here and was well known for defending it vigorously. She will always be loved and missed by her many friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Sidwell, and her husband, Herman L. Hines. Survivors include her three children, Pamela D. Hines of Indiana, Danielle L. Hines of Arkansas, and John W. Hines of Michigan; grandsons, John Christopher Hines of Michigan, Chase Michael Hines of Michigan, Nathanial Lane Coleman of Arkansas, and Jacob Daniel Hines of Michigan; great grandson, Liam Michael Hines of Michigan; and distant cousins in England.
In lieu of flowers, people are welcome to donate to the USO in her memory. The family will receive friends following the graveside, and appreciate your thoughts and prayers.
Arrangements by Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks, NC.
