It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew “Andy” Horace Joyner, who died on August 17th, at the age of 76. Funeral Services will be Thursday, August 21, at 2:00PM at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Coats. Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 21 from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Coats. Burial will follow in the Homestead Cemetery in Coats. Born at Good Hope Hospital in Erwin, NC on June 10, 1949, Andy was the son of Jacob Benton Joyner Sr. and Nannie Snipes Joyner.

A graduate of Coats High School and Wake Technical Community College, Andy built a lifelong career as a surveyor. He was the owner of Joyner Piedmont Surveying in Dunn and proudly served many terms as the Harnett County Surveyor. Beyond his professional work, he had a deep love for raising and showing quarter horses. He especially enjoyed showcasing his Amish-made buggy during Mule Days and proudly maintained a 50-year record of perfect attendance in the Mule Days parade.

Andy is survived by his brothers, Edwin Michael “Mike” Joyner and wife Judy of Fuquay-Varina, and Jacob B. Joyner Jr. and wife Jan of Birmingham; his son, Dustin Turlington and wife Janette of Coats and their son, Whitley; his nieces, Lisa Quigg and son Jacob of Fuquay-Varina, Leslie Richardson and husband Stephen of Coats with their children, Oaklynn and Lynnleigh, and Jana King and husband Kenneth of San Antonio with their children, Emmett and Evelyn. He is also survived by his dear friend and assistant, Adam Weaver. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Andy’s love for animals was lifelong. He is survived by his quarter horse, Angel, and his miniature donkey, Taz. He was also preceded in death by his faithful canine companion Bo, along with countless other beloved four-legged friends — dogs, horses, donkeys, and mules — who shared in his life’s journey.

Those who knew him will remember his passion for horses, his knack for making a deal, and the colorful personality that made his life uniquely his own.
