Alice was born on June 10, 1937, in Sampson County to the late Livie and Frances Jackson Bradshaw. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 29 years, Bobby Joe Stephenson; second husband of 33 years, Bobby Lee Knowles: five sisters, Eula Mae King, Hazel Hope, Lottie King, Vertie King, Ellen Keen, and two brothers, Clyde & Grady Bradshaw.
She is survived by a son, Timmy Joe Stephenson & daughter in law, Teresa of Albemarle, NC; daughter Susan Rae Hernandez and son-in-law, George, and three granddaughters, Elizabeth, Heather, and Amber Hernandez all of Benson; and many nieces and nephews.
Alice had many fond memories of growing up on the family farm near Clinton, NC. She attended Halls Piney Grove School and enjoyed farming with her first husband, Bobby Joe Stephenson. Alice was Bobby Joe’s dedicated caretaker for over a decade as he battled Multiple Sclerosis. Alice would later marry her husband, Bobby Lee Knowles. Together they enjoyed traveling to the NC & TN mountains and watching their grandchildren grow up. “Mrs. Alice” as she was affectionately referred to by the many children she cared for over two decades in her state-licensed in-home childcare in Willow Springs and then later in Benson. Alice had a love for cats, flowers and enjoyed being outdoors. She will always be remembered for her sweet and quiet demeanor and will be missed tremendously by her family.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Alice’s caretakers, nurses, and staff at the Golden Years Nursing facility, and the Liberty HomeCare and Hospice Services.
Flowers are welcome.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home of George and Susan Hernandez.
