Benson, NC: Minnie Edwards Jones, 93, of West Woodall St., Benson, went to her Heavenly home Saturday, July 13, 2019, at her residence surrounded by her daughter and granddaughters. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019, 2:00pm at Benson Baptist Church, Benson, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00pm in the fellowship hall at Benson Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Barry Jones.
Minnie was born March 17, 1926 in Nash County to the late Spencer L. and Helen Turner Edwards. She was preceded in death by her loving husband and sweetheart of 64 years, Gerald S. Jones; her brothers, Haywood Edwards, Spencer Edwards, Joe Wayne Edwards, and Peter Edwards; and sisters, Lillie Belle Griffin, Rachel Hill, and Dixie Sutherland.
Minnie was a passionate teacher who was devoted to her students. She taught in Johnston County for 30 years and was awarded Johnston County’s Teacher of the Year in 1982. Minnie was a light in her community where she loved to serve others and was a longtime member of Benson Baptist Church. Minnie was a joyous person who never met a stranger and loved her friends and family dearly.
Minnie is survived by her daughter, Mary Helen Page and granddaughters, Erin Page and Jessica Page Shellabarger (Dalton); her brothers, Cecil Edwards (Eloise), Jerry Edwards (Judy), Allen Edwards (Roberta), and Nelson Edwards; and her sister, Mildred Williams.
