Our relationship was more than business associates at the Robeson County Regional Fair. Scotty brought much joy and laughter to all who saw him when he was in "character." And over the years, I was privileged to know the man, himself. We were good friends.

May the Good Lord be with you during this difficult time. Coble D. Wilson, Jr.

Only met Mr. Epperson recently at the Forest Festival in Elkins WV. He could tell I didn't want to be around him when he showed up in a location I was at. (Barney Fife sometimes doesn't sit well with police). He was aware of that and made a point to meet me and tell me that he was a retired police officer and I was put as ease and was glad I was able to spend a few minutes with him and thanks to him, and his caring attitude, I am not as likely to be offended by a Barney joke anymore.

To Mrs. Epperson and family. I was honored to have known Scott for many years. He and I worked together in Law Enforcement (separate agencies) and I considered him a friend to call if I needed anything. He was always willing to extend his time to share a cup of coffee and a smile and joke along the way. We also worked together in the entertainment circle where he was a class act. He was very talented and very humble about his many talents. My heart goes out to the family......He will be deeply missed.

There was and will only be ONE Scott Epperson. Scott and I have been friends since we worked with Benson PD together in 1979. I'm so glad we got to work together some more in the later years of our careers. He was flashy like he used to say, but he was one of the most generous, kind hearted people I ever knew. His love for people and to entertain them was second only to his love for Melanie, Painter and the rest of his family. Like his many other friends, my heart aches at his departure from this earth. My love and sympathy to Mel, Painter and his family.

I know that I speak for many when I say Scoot (Barney Fife) touched nearly everyone that he encountered by making them smile. I got to speak with him in depth several years ago when he performed at the Davidson County Fair and found him to be a very interesting person. I spoke with him last on Oct. 26th ,2013 at the Barbeque Festival in Lexington, N.C. and after a lengthy conversation as always his parting words were "Be safe out there because they are getting crazy.......nip it in the bud". Dear Melanie and family, friends and pets
Our deepest condolences to you on the loss of Scott.
I last saw him at the Bloomsburg Fair in Columbia County Pa.
He was such a character and you believed he really was Don Knotts who played Barney Fife.
It is so hard to lose a partner and family member.
Know that Scott gave so much of himself in his service as a peace officer, actor and all around good fellow.
I am sure he is with Our Lord and will keep an eye on you and all.
Thank you for sharing your great fellow with the rest of the world.

Scott was an excellent man and coach. He coached my little league baseball team in Benson. I learned a lot about baseball but also about being a good person. I had the opportunity to see him a year ago in the barney fife show in Benson. He is a very talented actor and Im happy I got to see that . RIP Scott

Mel, I had the great pleasure to work with Scott for a couple of years. I got to know him and it didn't take long to realize that "Mel was the Love of his Life". Scott definitely enjoyed life and was always entertaining. I considered him a friend and he will be missed by many. In this time of your sorrow, please know that you are in our prayers. Because of God's strength and support, you will be able to take one day at a time and remember Scott every day!

Dear Melanie,
We were saddened to hear of Scott's passing.
I had the pleasure of meeting Scott while he was performing at the Grange Fair in Central Pennsylvania this past summer. He participated and interacted with our staff at an event our radio stations were hosting that day. He was very entertaining and just a wonderful man. We had a great conversation about the radio and we were considering him for an event this coming summer. I was so sorry to hear of his untimely passing.
May God grant you peace through this difficult time.

Scott and I enjoyed many times together and as many have already stated..he was a man of his word, professional, and truly a joy to work with. I am glad to say I have been given some personal dvds from "Barney" that I will cherish. I was also pleased to present an autographed photo of Scott to my 92 year old mother who still has it hanging in her home...she was thrilled to get it. Scott often talked about his family with much pride and his work on his stage show of Mayberry. That is one show I wished I had seen. May God provide you with peaceof heart during these coming days and the strength to carry on as Scott would want you to.

Scott made a huge impression with the New York State Police at the Erie County Fair. His passing has saddened us all, we found out very late about his passing and some members are still not aware he passed on. His humor, heart kind nature and generous nature will be remembered by all of us for many years to come. We offer our prayers and sympathy to his family and all who knew and loved him.

On a personal note I enjoyed our camaraderie and his love of life, also as an actor myself I admired his commitment to his character. Rest in peace my friend.

Scott, a true friend. He would tell me good friends are hard to come by. He was so right. I had the immense fortune to have met Scott and to have taken my children and parents to see Remembering Mayberry. I loved to laugh with Scott, we had such great conversations, some serious, but most were fun and funny. Scott always asked about and talked about people. He loved people and making them smile. My heart sank when I found out the sad news of the loss of such a great friend. I will always think of Scott with warm positive memories. Scott will truly be missed. My condolences to Melanie and family.
